Write Welcome in the Dust

Welcome to the new Big Red Kitchen! The dust is settling and I am slowly finding my way around all her innards. For four years I had hacked the old BRK practically to death. It got to the point that when I hit publish, the new post would disappear. It was held together with a wing and a prayer! A friend told me about Twig Interactive and after chatting with Jonathan and Kim, I knew they were the ones. I wouldn’t just hand this baby to anyone. JG and Kim were very calming, confident, and did exactly what I wanted, giving me their expertise and ideas all along the way. Do you see the new header logo in the upper left. It is a skyline of all those iconic cookware pieces you were so used to seeing on my old header for four years, plus a mason jar!  Look on my “Visit the Kitchen” page to see the cooktop photo to see what I mean.  Pretty cool, huh?  If you have a website that needs to be migrated, dusted and polished, redesigned, or created from the ground up- Lord Sith Goz (JG) webmaster and “I do 100 burpees for fun and dead-lift small buses” is your man.

Allow me to show you around a bit…

1.  On the upper right corner is the “follow” drop-down. There you can subscribe to my feeds (yes, do so please), and follow me on FaceBook and Twitter. I would love it if you followed me on FaceBook, that is where we are  most chatty and share great conversations during the day. You will have a better look into my day to day ramblings. The best part? We all help each other over there with cooking questions, household tips, and plain ole life stuff.

2.  On the left sidebar you will see “Hungry” which is where all my recipes are logged in categories. Hopefully you will find something you like, if not hit the search box over there on the right or the tag cloud.  You can see I added a “Paleo” category which is quite small but will grow in time.  Don’t forget Mason Jar Meals- they will change your life!

3.  Further down on the left you will see “Blog Features.” I added two new features that are an up close and personal look  into my life.  For four years I have kept BRK anecdotal and kept my personal life kind of, well, personal, but I felt moved to share a bit more about my story in the “My CrossFit” category, and let you know about my dietary lifestyle in “Paleo Schmaleo.” I have had so many phone calls, emails, and FB messages about Paleo and CrossFit I thought I would fill everyone in as to the how’s and why’s about them. Those two sections are dedicated to my husband, family, and friends who have stood strong with me over the years- I thank God for all of you!  These sections are filled to the brim with big chunks of prose, a blogging no-no, but at my age, I enjoy breaking some rules.

4. What’s to come for the site? We are still working on an archive by date section, getting a recipe and print page plug-in (any suggestions) and a few other bells and whistles.  We will still run the newsletter on the old blogspot template- why fix it if it wasn’t broke, plus it was the most brilliant hack job my brother ever invented- cheers Rob!  If you would like my newsletter, please sign up over there on the right. You can always opt out at anytime.

5. What’s to come for Big Red Kitchen LLC the business?  My attorney’s and I are in the process of trademarking BRK, it takes a long time. I have another business expert working with me about creating some BRK teaching materials, it takes a long time. An editor to review those materials, it takes a long time.  I have a marketing person working with me with things like mission statement, etc, it takes a long time.  Time. Funny thing that.

Thanks for taking the time to look around. Leave a “high five” in the comment section if you like what you see. Now go on over to my FaceBook page so we can hang out!

The site looks great; but I would rather read your blog in my reader without having to click through to your site to read the full posts.

I agree with Jennifer. When I clean out my reader the first ones to be unsubscribed are the ones with the click-to-read-the-rest-of-the-post links.

I absolutely love the new layout – love the tour too! I use http://www.printfriendly.com to print my posts. I love that a: I was able to install it myself! and b: you have the options of printing the post with or without pictures which saves paper and ink for whoever prints out your recipes.

Hope you are having a great week!

Your recipe for Christmas peanut butter candy looks great, but yor print version is 10pages? A few less pages may be a wise enviromental choice, not mention a little more economical for folks wanting to print the recipe.

Thank you Brenda for your comment. We are working on getting a better print feature, so for now one must print the selection using their print preview or highlighting the selection and right clicking to print selection. Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused.
