Entertaining: On serving chocolate bars

Place your prettiest pedestal dish atop your table. Decoratively display a collection of your favorite chocolate bars and some plump juicy strawberries. Dessert is complete. It is that simple. I have been doing this for a long time at all types of entertaining situations, from sit-down dinners, cocktail parties, to book club, and it has always been  a welcome dessert choice. There is something about passing a plate stacked with brand new chocolate bars and watching each person go through the choices as if it were Christmas morning. Last week I hosted a party and one of my guests said, “Oh can I help you open the chocolate bars?” She and I, while the other ladies chatted, carefully opened each bar and oohed over the flavor blends like cherry almond, and salted peanut, broke off small bits for us, and passed the platter. Each lady in turn broke off what they wanted, picked a few berries and the plate continued to pass around the room, twice even, with everyone taking their pleasure.

There is something nice about breaking chocolate together.

Is dark chocolate Paleo? I have seen some blogs that say yes, if you get the high %, but others say no. What is your take on it?

Personally I think it is fine even though the “cavemen” didn’t sit around sharing them. Go low in sugar and milk and high % in chocolate and enjoy a treat once in a while. I think life has to have pleasures more than strict rules:-)

This is a great idea. I love chocolate bars… They’re like opening presents. 🙂
